This year, Africa Fashion Week, AFWT debuts as a series of city-wide events that will
attract, entertain, and educate on everything African fashion from
August 15 – 18, 2013 at the Japanese Canadian Cultural Centre, 6
Garamond Court in Toronto. The event opens on the first day with a red carpet cocktail reception
in the evening while a student designer competition and runway shows
will run on the days following that. I’m looking forward to all parts of
the event especially the informative ‘Fashion Africa’ seminar and
festive meet-n-greets.
During the seminar, six panelists will discuss
the future and business of the African fashion industry. Saturday and
Sunday specifically, the runway will feature 20 African-inspired
designers from around the world. There’ll be opportunities to buy your
favourite things during the buyer’s and vendors market, which will be
filled with all sorts of arts, crafts and fashion.
