Meet 31-year-old Nigerian John Olumba Running For Mayor of Detroit, Michigan


 Originally from Owerri, Imo State in Nigeria, John Olumba  the son of a Nigerian father and American mother was born at Grace Hospital in Detroit and is one of five children.  He comes from a long line of activists, judges, chiefs in America and Nigeria. He attended the University of Michigan for college and graduated with two majors, economics and political science.
He was active in many organizations including the NAACP and the Black Undergraduate Law Association. Olumba’s hard work at U of M earned him admission and the Dean’s Scholarship to attend Northern Illinois University College of Law. He also studied law in England at the University College of London  and is an ordained pastor. He is married wiith kids and currently a member of Michigan State House of Representatives and the first Nigerian to be elected into an office in the state's history.
